Piotr auctioned his SILVER Olympic Medal?

How important is a Silver Medal at Olympics? No one knows better than we, Indians, as our one silver medal got laurels and heaps of awards to our silver medalist PV Sindhu! Today every Indian is proud of that one silver medal and why not!

But, can you believe someone can sell his own well deserved & earned Silver Medal?

Yes you heard it right! It needs a larger than large heart to do what Piotr Malachowski is doing! Its not even been long when Poland’s Piotr Malachowski won his Silver Medal in ‘Discus Throw’ in Rio Olympics 2016! But then what he did, he won pure golden hearts!

Piotr must have realized that this medal, which will only collect dust in the drawing room, might help a little kid lead a healthy life and hence he decided to auction his Silver Medal, for which he might have practiced and which might have been his dream for his entire life.

Piotr auctioned his Silver Medal to help raise money for a 3-year-old boy with cancer. According to his Facebook page on 19th August, per a Facebook translation (via Huffington Post) , “Today I appeal to everyone ― let’s fight together about something that is even more precious: the health of this fantastic boy.”

Olek-Szymanski-with-retinoblastoma
Olek Szymanski is the little boy, who has Retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer that begins in the retina! And Piotr wanted to help raise funds for him.

He began the auction on 19th August, which was going to end today on 26th August! Malachowski wrote this remarkable thing on Facebook: “If you help me, my silver can be more precious than gold.”

And the good news is that Olek reportedly secured enough funding to get the treatment that could save his eye. “We were able to show that together we can do wonders,” Malachowski told the BBC “It is our great shared success.”

What an amazing & an exemplary gesture shown by Piotr! What a majestic heart! Hats off to such humanity!
