The story-line and the theme of Dangal is well-known by everyone. So let’s straight away go on to find out what makes the movie special.
Here comes Aamir Khan after a gap of 2 years with another brilliantly made film. Gaining weight and looking older and then transforming his body once again back to normal is the thing which can only be done by Aamir in the Hindi film industry. As always, ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ doesn’t disappoint with his great display of emotions and natural performance. But the real hero of the film is the director Nitesh Tiwari. Credit goes to him for finding out such talented actresses in Fatima and Sanya as well as the little girls Zaira and Suhani who play the roles of Geeta and Babita. Aparshakti Khurrana is a surprise package in the movie with his one-liners and a funny yet impressive narration(voice-over). Sakshi Tanwar also plays her part well. Apart from the casting, the director ensures that the Wrestling sequences are captured in a realistic as well as engaging manner. Quite un-dramatic and unlike Sultan. The father-daughter as well as the ‘father-turned-coach’ and ‘daughter-turned-national champion’ relationships are shown marvellously in the film.
Aamir Khan is a man of great intelligence and genuinely good taste. If there is one person who can make a mainstream Bollywood film that doesn’t merely exemplify Bollywood but transcends it, it is him. And that’s why in the end you can still feel that the expectations were not fully met. Still, Dangal is the best Bolly-flick of 2016, immaculately crafted, and the emotional highs and lows in the script reach a resolution that is the most satisfying for a viewer. The first day house-full occupancy in theatres and a positive word-of-mouth would ensure that it won’t be affected by Demonetisation.
